Ballet uses five fundamental positions, and all are performed with a turnout, with the origin reaching back to the mid 17th Century.
Pointe uses the same positions and movement as ballet, however the moves are done in pointe shoes so the dancer may go fully up on their toes when in releve.
Jazz is a popular dance style which allows dancers to show their different styles and originality while maintaining energy during turns, leaps, and unique moves.
Tap is dance that uses sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion, many seeing the dancer as being a musician while they are simultaneously dancing.
Modern and contemporary dance are often categorized as one type of dance, but they both have different driving forces behind them. Modern tends to mimick ballet’s use of the feet as the catalyst for dance movements, where you will see exploration of total body movement and no use of set styles.
Hip-hop is a street dance style that free from a culture and evolved into a performance to hip-hop music.
This class will give students an opportunity to expand their ballet, tap, and jazz dance skills in a whole new way. Your student will be introduced to the great musical theatre classics as well as the best of Broadway today. This class will focus on character building, storytelling skills, and adapting to styles in dance through exercises in acting, improvisation and storytelling. Working at each student’s comfort and skill level we will help foster creativity and self-expression, building confidence in your student that will shine in performance.
Students will learn the main elements of creating dance compositions (choosing and mapping music, building upon a theme, improvisation, finding inspiration, etc.). Students will then use these newly learned skills to create a piece that will be performed at the recital. Great for Seniors, or soon-to-be Seniors, who will perform a solo in the recital.
Senior Solo Prep Class
When a dancer becomes a senior in High School he/she has the opportunity to perform a solo dance in the Annual Recital. In order to guide our Senior Soloists to perform their best, we have added a Senior Solo class that will meet just once a month. This class will focus on music selection, choreography, and keep seniors on track as far as deadlines in regards to their dance. Seniors who plan to perform a Senior Solo dance MUST enroll in this class.
The ’nMotion Dance Company
This non-competition team is by invitation only. This group emphasizes performance skills and self-esteem and performs all over the community throughout the year.
A year-end performance in June to celebrate student achievement.
All dancers who have none to little previous dance experience who are over the age of 10, or have taken a significant break between training should be evaluated. Level placements do not necessarily coincide with age groups.
If you’re unclear about what class is best for you, call Sarah at (763) 571-6180 for an evaluation to ensure your appropriate level. Evaluations may be done in private or in small groups. They are performed in a casual and comfortable manner.
We accept open enrollment all year round. Come in for an evaluation today!
